On the evening of August 22, World Humanoid Robot Games (WHRG) 2026 opened at the National Speed Skating Oval, known as the “Ice Ribbon,” in Beijing. A total of 666 teams from 16 countries across 6 continents, operating 2,056 robots, competed in 51 events. The Galaxy Team, of faculty members and students from SDJU School of Intelligent Manufacturing and Robotics, participated in three events: Industrial Scenarios—Assembly and Material Feeding, Dexterous Hand Challenge—Block Building, and Dexterous Hand Challenge—Cable Connection. This marked SDJU team’s first appearance at the event. In the Block Building competition, the team advanced to the final after ranking first in the preliminary round and ultimately secured second place in the final. Its block-building speed was the fastest among all participating university teams.
By integrating and applying technologies including machine vision, path planning, and dexterous-hand control, the Galaxy Team enabled its robot to complete tasks fully autonomously. It was one of only two teams among the 21 participating in the Block Building competition that could complete the task without remote control. The team’s achievement was subsequently reported by media outlets and websites including CCTV Sports, Beijing Daily, and Sina Finance, attracting considerable attention.
All participating students are from SDJU Intelligent Robotics Technology Research Institute. This award represents another important achievement for the team, further motivating it to advance talent development and technological innovation in response to emerging needs at the forefront of industry. By providing students with close-up exposure to cutting-edge technologies and real-world application scenarios, the team helps cultivate their ability to solve practical, on-site problems and injects fresh talent into the high-end intelligent manufacturing sector.
