Breakthrough Achievement! SDJU Team Won Grand Prize at National Final of the 5th EEEIC

03/08/2026

The national final of the 5th Electrical & Electronic Engineering Innovation Competition (EEEIC) recently concluded successfully at Harbin Institute of Technology, where the innovation team from SDJU School of Electrical and Energy Engineering (SEEE) won the National Grand Prize. Organized by the Chinese Electrotechnical Society, this year’s competition attracted 2,817 teams from 306 universities nationwide, making it a highly competitive national-level engineering competition in the field of electrical and electronic engineering.

Among the participating university teams in Shanghai, only four universities—Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tongji University, Shanghai University of Electric Power, and Shanghai DianJi University—won first prizes in the Shanghai competition and secured places in the national final.

A total of 14 teams from Shanghai advanced to the national final. Our university’s entry, “Design of a UAV Power Line Inspection System Based on Improved Active Disturbance Rejection Control and Edge Computing,” stood out for its innovative approach and practical applicability. It was the only entry in Track D to receive interviews from multiple major media outlets. The project employs hybrid PID–ADRC control to improve UAV flight stability and uses edge-based computer vision algorithms to autonomously identify defects in high-voltage transmission lines, enabling intelligent inspection throughout the entire process.

After undergoing multiple rounds of evaluation, including physical demo, expert defenses, and assessments of practical implementation, the team prevailed over strong competitors. It became the only team among the four Shanghai universities advancing to the national final to win the National Grand Prize, marking a historic achievement in SDJU’s innovation and entrepreneurship competitions.

The winning team was guided by Ren Xiaoming, with team members Liang Yuhao, Lei Mingxiang, Yu Sixuan, and Yu Jinchi. Their journey from winning first prize in Shanghai to claiming the National Grand Prize was made possible by the four members’ persistent dedication and their sustained efforts to refine and improve the project. Addressing key challenges in the power inspection industry and demonstrating strong practical application potential, the project received extensive coverage from News Network of Heilongjiang Radio and Television Station, Harbin News of Harbin Radio and Television Station, Heilongjiang Daily, and Harbin Daily. The coverage showcased these students’ solid professional expertise and their enterprising spirit in scientific and technological innovation.

SEEE has consistently placed a strong emphasis on cultivating innovative engineering talent. It continues to develop platforms for innovation practice and encourages faculty and students to apply their disciplinary expertise to practical challenges, providing strong support for students’ growth in scientific and technological innovation. This National Grand Prize reflects the dedicated guidance of the instructor, the teamwork and tireless efforts of the team members, and SDJU’s achievements in engineering talent development. In the future, our university will continue to provide robust support for student innovation projects, encourage more students to engage in innovation practice, strengthen their capabilities through knowledge and action, pursue their aspirations through concrete efforts, and strive for further breakthroughs in scientific and technological innovation.
