Recently, ASIIN, German Accreditation Agency for Study Programs in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, officially announced its accreditation results. Three KKIP (Kaiserslautern Kolleg für Intelligente Produktion) programs — Electrical Engineering and Automation, Mechatronic Engineering, and Logistics Management — have successfully passed accreditation. This marks a breakthrough achievement in the development of SDJU’s Sino-German cooperative programs and international talent cultivation, with the quality of its professional education receiving recognition from an internationally authoritative accreditation body.
ASIIN is a highly influential German accreditation agency for higher education programs and enjoys wide recognition in international engineering education and higher education quality assurance systems. The successful accreditation of all three programs indicates that the talent cultivation system, curriculum framework, teaching quality, practical training platforms, and quality assurance mechanisms of KKIP have comprehensively met internationally recognized standards. This achievement has laid a solid foundation for cultivating outstanding field engineers with international competitiveness.
The two engineering programs — Electrical Engineering and Automation and Mechatronic Engineering — not only passed the ASIIN accreditation but also received the EUR-ACE® (European Accredited Engineer) label. As a quality label for engineering education recognized by the European Union, EUR-ACE® indicates that graduates of these two programs possess engineering qualifications widely recognized across the EU. It provides an internationally recognized “quality passport” for students pursuing further study or engaging in engineering and technical careers in Europe, further demonstrating the close alignment of SDJU’s engineering programs with international engineering education standards.

The ASIIN accreditation process for the KKIP Sino-German cooperative programs officially commenced in 2024. With coordinated support from various departments, KKIP strictly followed international accreditation standards and conducted systematic optimization and enhancement in key areas, including educational objectives, graduate outcomes, curriculum systems, teaching resources, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.
From October 28 to 29, 2025, a six-member ASIIN expert panel visited SDJU for on-site evaluation. Through activities including discussions and interviews, classroom observations, document reviews, and inspections of laboratory and practical training facilities, the experts fully recognized the achievements made in the development of the three programs.

KKIP has consistently promoted internationalized education under the guidance of Party building and has accelerated its development by benchmarking against leading Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions in areas such as internationalized curricula, faculty development, talent cultivation, and industry–education integration (IEI).
KKIP adopts a “German language + professional education” interdisciplinary model, using original German textbooks and course resources, with courses jointly delivered by Chinese and German faculty members. Credits are mutually recognized between the two sides, and students follow either a “3+1” or “2+2” training model. After meeting German language requirements, students may study at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences (KUAS) or Bremen University of Applied Sciences in Germany. Upon fulfilling graduation requirements, students can receive dual bachelor’s degrees awarded by both Chinese and German institutions.
KKIP is equipped with high-standard international teaching facilities and has become the first UNIcert® test center in Shanghai. Each year, over 15 overseas distinguished professors are invited to teach at KKIP. In 2024 and 2025, two German professors were awarded the title of Shanghai Renowned Overseas Professor (ROP). Among them, Professor Ulrich Schell, KUAS former President, developed the innovative Five-Step Teaching Method, which deeply integrates theory and practice and has significantly enhanced students’ practical capabilities and innovative thinking.

Since its establishment, KKIP students have achieved outstanding results in German language proficiency examinations. The one-time pass rate for the College German Test Band 4 has remained above 90%, while the one-time pass rate for College German Test Band 6 has exceeded 81%. In the Goethe B2 test, the pass rate reached 81.7%, and the pass rate for C1 certification reached 45.1%. To date, 170 students have gone abroad to pursue undergraduate dual degrees, and 72 students have been admitted to master’s programs at Germany’s TU9 universities.
Students have also achieved remarkable results in various competitions. Zhang Bohan, a student admitted in 2022, won the Bronze Award in the Employment Track of the 2026 Third National College Student Career Planning Competition Finals, marking a historic breakthrough for SDJU in this competition. Students also participated in the 2025 National and Shanghai Physics Competitions, winning one second prize and one third prize at the national level, as well as one second prize and one third prize at the Shanghai level. In recent years, the graduate employment rate of KKIP has remained above 98%, with a considerable number of graduates joining renowned enterprises such as Shanghai Electric Group, Shanghai Baoye Group, Siemens, Kingsemi, Tesla, and MR (China).
KKIP regularly organizes Sino-German forums, inviting professors from German universities and experts from industries and enterprises to discuss the cultivation of internationally oriented intelligent manufacturing professionals. It has taken the lead in establishing the Lin-gang Special Area German Enterprise Alliance, creating a practical platform for Sino-German IEI in Lin-gang. KKIP has also established three Sino-German cooperative IEI internship and training bases in Lin-gang (Shanghai), Taicang (Jiangsu Province), and Broetje (Germany), cultivating and supplying international intelligent manufacturing professionals to support industrial development of Lin-gang, the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta region, and the global development of Chinese enterprises.

The successful completion of the ASIIN international accreditation represents a significant milestone in SDJU’s long-term commitment to deepening cooperation with Germany and building a model for Sino-German collaborative talent cultivation. As a new starting point, KKIP will continue to deepen Sino-German cooperation and exchanges, further improve its talent cultivation system, and strive to develop into a hub for Sino-German intelligent manufacturing talent, a demonstration zone for international IEI, and a leading platform for Sino-German cooperation and exchange. Through these efforts, KKIP will contribute to the development of the Lin-gang Special Area as an international intelligent manufacturing center and Shanghai as a globally influential science and technology innovation center, while cultivating more outstanding field engineers with international perspectives, innovative capabilities, and strong engineering expertise.
