To actively promote international educational cooperation and cultural exchange and strengthen connectivity with universities and institutions in Belt and Road countries, a SDJU delegation, led by Vice President Yang Junjie, visited Thailand and Vietnam from May 24 to 29. During the visit, the delegation visited several renowned universities and key institutions, building bridges of friendship and exploring new opportunities for cooperation.
On May 25, the delegation visited Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT), where it received a warm welcome from Professor Boonyang Plangklang (Assistant to the President), and Assistant Professor Sasiprapha Asawawilbul (Assistant to the President and Director of the International Relations Division), along with representatives from relevant faculties and departments. The two sides held pragmatic discussions on topics including research collaboration, dual-degree program, and faculty and student exchanges. They reached consensus on jointly establishing laboratories and developing a “2+2” dual-degree cooperation program for Thai students to study at SDJU.
The delegation visited RMUTT’s aircraft maintenance training facility, which serves as an engineering training base for Thai Lion Air and is the only authorized institution in Thailand qualified to issue aircraft maintenance certificates. During the visit, the delegation also held in-depth discussions with Mr. Aswin Yangkirativorn, Chief Executive Officer of Thai Lion Air, on topics including aviation industry talent cultivation.
On May 26, the delegation visited Chiang Rai Rajabhat University (CRRU), where it held discussions with Dr. Sahattaya Sittivised, Vice-President, Dr. Charan Khonraeng, Dean of the Faculty of Industrial Technology, and other representatives. The two sides focused on cooperation in areas including the “2+2” dual-degree program in China, summer group program, and Chinese language education. Both universities also agreed to prioritize the development of short-term student exchange program in the near future.
On May 27, the delegation visited THANHMAIHSK in Vietnam and received a warm welcome from General Director Tran Thi Mai and the teaching team. The two sides exchanged views on SDJU’s Master’s Program in International Chinese Education, Chinese language training courses, and short-term student exchange programs, reaching a preliminary cooperation intention. Both sides agreed to make short-term student exchange programs the initial focus of cooperation, using them as a platform to deepen exchanges and promote practical collaboration. On the same day, the delegation visited the Vietnam National Convention Center, a partner of THANHMAIHSK, where it was warmly received by Business Manager Nguyen Van Minh. The two sides reached a preliminary cooperation intention regarding the cultivation of Chinese language talents.
On May 28, the delegation visited Electric Power University (EPU), where it received a warm welcome from Vice Rector Nguyen Le Cuong, Dr. Chu Viet Thuc, Head of the Department of Research Management and International Cooperation, and other representatives. The two sides held in-depth discussions on joint lab, joint doctoral program, and faculty and student exchanges. They also identified future cooperation directions in areas including short-term student programs, Excellent Overseas Teacher Program, and the “2+2” dual-degree program for students studying in China. In the afternoon, the delegation toured the campus and visited several teaching facilities.
On May 29, the delegation visited FPT Polytechnic, a vocational college under FPT Education Group, and held discussions with Professor Hoang Van Loi, Vice Rector, Dr. Phong, and other representatives. The two sides reached preliminary cooperation intentions on undergraduate top-up programs for associate degree holders and short-term student exchange programs. The delegation visited its teaching facilities and practical training bases and attended classroom sessions to observe its seminar-based teaching approach and student innovation and entrepreneurship development model.
This visit to Thailand and Vietnam not only deepened mutual understanding and friendship between SDJU and patterner universities and institutions, but also established platforms for regular exchanges and cooperation. It opened up new pathways for practical collaboration in talent cultivation, scientific research, cultural exchange, and other fields. Moving forward, SDJU will take this exchange as an opportunity to continuously expand the scope of international cooperation, deepen the substance of cross-border collaboration, and promote the continued development of China-Thailand and China-Vietnam educational cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
Profiles of Partner Institutions
Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT) is a public university in Thailand initiated by Thai Royal Family and affiliated with the Ministry of Education. It focuses on technology education and research. In 1975, multiple century-old technological colleges were merged to establish the Rajamangala Institute of Technology (RIT) with the goal of enhancing Thailand’s technological education capacity. In 2005, the institution was officially renamed RMUTT. The university consists of nine relatively independent universities with more than ten campuses nationwide, with its main campus located in Pathum Thani Province near Bangkok.
Chiang Rai Rajabhat University (CRRU) is a key public university directly under Thailand’s Ministry of Education. Founded in 1969, it is located in Chiang Rai Province, a renowned tourist destination in northern Thailand. Covering an area of approximately 3,800 mu, it is among the first comprehensive research universities recommended by China’s MOE. The university offers a wide range of disciplines, including humanities, sciences, engineering, agriculture, medicine, and arts, with 13 faculties providing full-time undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral education.
THANHMAIHSK was established in 2009 and specializes in preparation for the HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test). After years of development, the center has established 10 branches in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. As a model institution for Chinese language education in Vietnam, the center brings together university lecturers as instructors and aims to provide high-quality Chinese learning environments and consulting services for studying in China.
Electric Power University (EPU) is a leading institution in Vietnam for cultivating professionals in the electricity and energy sectors and is currently affiliated with Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT). With a history dating back to 1898, it has developed into a multidisciplinary and multi-level public university system. In 2015, the university was transferred from Vietnam Electricity (EVN) to the direct administration of MOIT. Currently, approximately 70% of Vietnam’s electricity sector workforce, including employees of major state-owned enterprises such as EVN, are graduates of EPU.
FPT Polytechnic, a vocational college under FPT Corporation’s education division, was established by FPT Corporation in July 2010. Following the educational philosophy of “training through practice,” the college focuses on fields including information technology, business administration, and graphic design, providing employment-oriented vocational skills training for high school graduates. It operates multiple campuses in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and other locations, with the mission of cultivating professionals with practical experience and adaptability.
