On March 27, 2025, China Daily, China’s only national English-language newspaper with a global readership, published a feature introducing several representative research breakthroughs associated with China Space Station(CSS)since its operation in 2021. Among these research firsts was a major scientific study led bySDJU Professor Jin Min’s team in collaboration with partner institution, which was reported in detail as one of the key research achievements.

The full completion of CSS marks the successful establishment of a manned space station system with distinctive contemporary and Chinese characteristics. It also signifies the accomplishment of the three-step strategic objectives of China’s manned space program, ushering in a new stage of application and development. According to a report released by China Manned Space Agency at the end of 2024, since its completion, CSS has witnessed 8 manned missions and 7 cargo missions, welcomed 21 astronauts, and facilitated more than 180 scientific and applied research projects. The representative achievements highlighted in this China Daily report were carefully selected from projects with brought-back samples, research data after completing in-orbit experiments.

Professor Jin’s team, together with collaborators, conducted the world’s first study on the growth of InSe semiconductor crystals under microgravity conditions. They successfully obtained high-quality, high-performance InSe single crystals and developed prototype field-effect transistor devices. These devices exhibited an electron mobility 3-4 times higher than ground-based devices, alongside significant improvements in key performance indicators such as on-current, on/off ratio, and stability.

This research provides important guidance for optimizing InSe semiconductor crystal growth technology on Earth and is expected to strongly promote the widespread application of InSe crystal materials in high-speed electronic devices, optoelectronic devices, photodetectors, and flexible electronics.
