Recently, the results of 2024 “Huawei Cup” the 21st China Post-Graduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CPMCM) and China Undergraduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling (CUMCM), were announced. SDJU postgraduate students Wan Xiaoxi, Zhao Wenjun, and Wang Shuo won the national third prize, while SDJU undergraduate students also achieved remarkable results, securing 4 second prizes and 3 third prizes in the Shanghai division.
Both CPMCM and CUMCM are ranked as Class-A competitions. CPMCM adheres to the principles of educating through competition, promoting reform through competition, and building bridges through competition. It fosters innovation in postgraduate education, enhances the role of postgraduate education in supporting China's modernization, and empowers the high-quality development of postgraduate students. Established in 1992 and held annually, CUMCM has become the largest foundational discipline competition among universities in China and the largest mathematical modeling competition in the world.
Mathematical modeling contests serve as a crucial platform for cultivating students’ ability to apply mathematical knowledge to real-world problems, fostering innovation and creativity, enhancing their capacity to solve complex challenges, and nurturing highly qualified, multidisciplinary and top-tier application-oriented talents. Recognizing the significance of these competitions, SDJU Education Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (ECIE) and School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) place great emphasis on various mathematical modeling contests. The SAS’s dedicated coaching team meticulously organized preparatory training sessions, facilitates the reading of prior exemplary papers, and encourages students to participate in competitions like “MathorCup” and “Huashu Cup” to improve their practical skills. During the summer vacation, targeted activities were arranged to train student in modeling thinking and simulate competition were conducted, boosting participants’ confidence and strengthening team cohesion and these efforts have yielded remarkable results.
