Thanks to our university’s educational endeavors, a series of outstanding athletes have emerged, showcasing the excellent spirit and exceptional sports skills of SDJU students. They serve as role models and benchmarks for the wider student community. Since 2024, our university’s archery team, fitness and bodybuilding team, fancy rope skipping team, taekwondo team, and several other sports teams have participated in various college student sports competitions in Shanghai. Success stories have been frequent, with over ten teams winning a total of 32 gold medals, 31 silver medals, and 24 bronze medals across 18 Shanghai and national competitions.
The remarkable achievements of SDJU’s sports teams in 2024 can be attributed to the athletes’ unwavering passion and rigorous training. Our three key teams—archery, football, and fancy rope skipping—trained an average of three times a week, with coach consistently providing guidance on techniques and strategies. Before competitions, additional intensive training sessions were conducted proactively. Under the guidance of their respective coach, athletes of 16 SDJU teams trained diligently, with seamless collaboration between seasoned and new members, allowing the newcomers to grow rapidly. The coach upheld the essence of education by emphasizing both character development and skill training. They prioritized fostering team spirit and sense of competition, incorporating training into competitions to enhance students’ psychological resilience, convey the spirit of sportsmanship, and showcase SDJU’s image and ethos.
This year, our university launched “Sports Pioneer” series of selection activities. Outstanding students who earned the titles of “Excellent Athlete”, “Campus Sports Star”, and “Campus Sports Enthusiast” were recognized at the May Fourth Commendation Conference. Their inspirational stories have been featured as exemplary cases and promoted through “SDJU Sports” WeChat official account. The second-classroom sports activities and competitions on campus have also been vibrant and engaging. Various secondary schools hosted individual sports events, and after more than three years of development, a positive pattern of “one school, one specialty sport” has taken shape. Each year, over ten sports events attract the participation of thousands of students, fostering a rich campus sports culture.
