Focusing on Development and Shaping the Future: Our University Successfully Hosted the Third “Moon River” International Young Scholars Forum

To deeply study and implement the spirit of the central conference on talent-related work and Shanghai Municipal conference of talent work, and to implement these strategic deployments, SDJU held the 3rd “Moon River” International Young Scholars Forum on November 18. The forum aimed to actively strengthen our university via talents, pool young talents domestically and internationally, promote academic innovation and cooperation among outstanding young scholars, and advance the construction of a high-level applied technology university. The forum was attended by Gong Siyi, SDJU President, Yang Junjie, Vice President, Mo Hongming from Talent Work Office of CPC Shanghai Education and Health Work Committee (SEHWC), leaders of SDJU secondary schools, personnel from relevant departments, and more than 40 young scholars. Additionally, over 8,800 young scholars from around the world watched the forum live. The main forum was chaired by Vice President Yang.


In her speech, Mo Hongming introduced Shanghai’s specific measures in talent recruitment, talent cultivation mechanisms, and talent service guarantees. She expressed that SEHWC strongly supports Shanghai universities in hosting international young scholars forums and enhancing the brand of talent recruitment forums at Shanghai universities. The aim is to leverage the unique advantage of universities in gathering talent, making them the main hub for talent introduction, the backbone of talent supply, and a source of scientific and technological innovation in Shanghai. She also highly praised the distinctive achievements of our university recent years in personnel reform and talent team building. She acknowledged that SDJU has forged a unique development path characterized as “most aligned with SDJU specialty, most embedded in Lin-gang, most open, and most integrated with industry and education.”

President Gong gave a detailed introduction focusing on our university’s profile, development strategy, progress, and team building. She emphasized that over its 70-year history, SDJU has adhered to its technology-based, application-oriented educational philosophy, maintaining a distinctive approach to integrating industry and education to serve advanced manufacturing and modern service industries.  Addressing the national landscape of high-quality development, Gong outlined SDJU’s positioning and vision, stating that our university plays a significant historical role in regional development, talent hub construction, and contributing to the nation’s educational strength. This is particularly relevant to the strategic industrial layout of the Lin-gang Special Area. Gong underscored that building a high-level talent team has always been a top priority for SDJU’s development. The high-quality growth of our university depends on outstanding young talent and urgently requires more young scholars to join. She affirmed SDJU’s commitment to fostering a favorable talent ecosystem, deepening reforms in talent development mechanisms, improving the cultivation system for young talent, and building robust platforms for their growth and success. With a proactive approach, SDJU aims to accelerate its transformation into a national pilot applied technology university with a distinctive focus on aerospace.

Professor Wen Chuanbo from School of Electrical Engineering delivered a special report titled “Condition Monitoring and Fault Diagnosis of High-Voltage Motors”. Centered on the topic, he shared a series of stories about aligning research directions with national strategic needs, achieving continuous technological innovation, and providing better services to enterprises.

Associate Professors Lin Siqi from School of Materials Science and Engineering and Liu Yue from School of Mechanical Engineering, as representatives of newly recruited faculty, shared their personal growth stories and experiences. They spoke about the comprehensive support provided by our university for young faculty in terms of training and resources after joining SDJU, highlighting how their personal development aligns seamlessly with SDJU's development goals, showcasing fruitful outcomes of this integration.

Scholar representatives, including Dr. Hu Wenjian from KU Leuven in Belgium, Dr. Yuan Weimin from Beihang University, and Dr. Wei Qinghua from Shanghai University, presented their research achievements and future plans. They expressed their keen interest in joining SDJU and grow together with it.

The Human Resources Office provided a comprehensive explanation of our university’s talent policies, outlining the overall strategy for talent recruitment and introducing various talent programs at municipal, district, and university levels. The office highlighted the abundant resources and support provided by Lin-gang Special Area and SDJU to foster the growth of young members, extending a warm invitation to outstanding young talents.

In the afternoon, eight parallel sub-forums hosted by different schools were held simultaneously, covering fields of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, electronic information, aerospace, design art, economics and management, and humanities and social sciences. Through diverse exchange activities such as special reports, seminars and discussions, scholars from home and abroad engaged in in-depth discussions with SDJU faculty on cutting-edge academic issues and hot research areas, creating a vibrant and enthusiastic academic atmosphere.

The 3rd Moon River International Young Scholars Forum was a significant step taken in response to the call for high-quality development outlined in Second SDJU Party Congress. It aligned with our university development strategy, accelerated the building of a high-caliber faculty team, and promoted our goal of becoming a nationally pilot applied technology university with a distinctive focus on aerospace. The forum received enthusiastic participation from young scholars both domestically and internationally. Our university will continue to build platforms for pooling talents, and organize various talent recruitment activities. We sincerely invite more young talents to join SDJU and achieve their career goals on the fertile ground of Shanghai DianJi University.
