Second Prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award for Research on “Hualong One” Nuclear Island Main Equipment

15/11/2024

On October 23, Shanghai held the 2023 Shanghai Science and Technology Awards Ceremony, awarding a total of 214 prizes. SDJU project “Development and Industrialization of Complete-set Large Forgings for Nuclear Island Main Equipment of Hualong One” led by Professor Li Rongbin from School of Materials Science and Engineering (SMSE), won the Second Prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award.

The SMSE heavy forging manufacturing team, together with Shanghai Electric SHMP Casting & Forging Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, deeply engaged in industry-education integration, leveraged Shanghai Collaborative Innovation Center for Heavy Casting and Forging Manufacturing Technology and Shanghai Engineering Research Center for Heavy Thermal Manufacturing, and cooperated on materials and forging technology of large parts for key components of “Hualong One”, forming domestic technology with independent intellectual property rights for “Hualong One” nuclear power main equipment forgings.

As a shining card of China, “Hualong One” boasts independently designed advanced third-generation million-kilowatt pressurized water reactor nuclear power technology, shouldering the responsibility of China’s nuclear power going global. The completion of the project filled the domestic technology gap and broke foreign blockade of manufacturing technology for large forgings used in nuclear power.
