Recently, China Scholarship Council (CSC) issued theNotice on Approved Projects for 2024 Innovative Talent International Cooperative Training Program (CSC Notice No. [2023] 40), and our university’s “International Cooperative Training Project of Excellent Field Engineer for Intelligent Manufacture of High-end Power Equipment” (Project) was funded under CSC Special University Program. The approved Project duration is three years (2024-2026), with an annual total selection quota of 3 individuals per year (1 doctoral student, 1 visiting scholar and 1 postdoctoral fellow).Partner institutions of this Project include Graz University of Technology in Austria, Kanagawa University in Japan, and Wayne State University in the United States and the fields of study are Electrical Engineering (Energy and Power) and Control Science and Engineering.
The Innovative Talent International Cooperative Training Program aims to address the problem of inadequate high-level talents and technological bottlenecks in the field of high-end power equipment of our country. The approved Project well demonstrates SDJU’s technology-based and application-oriented strategy and aligns with our need to build energy and power engineering discipline, aiming to join hands with foreign institutions in exploration of an international cooperative training mechanism for excellent field engineers. The Project plans to cultivate innovative talents by selecting excellent young teachers and students to partner universities for degrees, exchange visits, and postdoctoral studies. It aims to adopt an internationalized training approach that integrates collaborative efforts between academia and industry, and facilitates interdisciplinary fusion, combining high-end power equipment disciplines such as electrical engineering, energy and power, control science and engineering, and computer science. This integration is sure to enhance the interdisciplinary professional knowledge and humanistic literacy of high-level talents, thereby improving their diversified comprehensive competitiveness. These concerted efforts will cultivate a high-level faculty team, provide strong support for SDJU’s doctoral programs in energy and power discipline, promote the output of international scientific research results, serve the high-end equipment intelligent manufacturing cluster in Lin-gang Special Area, and assist the upgrades of advanced manufacturing industry.
This is the first time our university has applied for the CSC Special University Program, and we were successfully approved among over 450 projects in one go. SDJU attaches great importance to the role of different projects in promoting the cultivation of high-level international talents. In preparing this Project, the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation (OICE), as the secretariat unit, collaborated with School of Electrical Engineering and the School of Electronic Information to fully tap into the advantages of international cooperation. The preparation began in 2022 and SDJU was approved as an implementation unit in November. In September 2023, we participated in CSC project application briefing, submitted the application in October, and defended it in Beijing in early December. Through concerted efforts, we have achieved this significant breakthrough with high quality and efficiency, filling the gap in our university’s national-level international cooperation project.
The Project will broaden the international perspective of our faculty and students, allowing them to learn from dominant engineering education models. It will also innovate our university’s high-quality talent training model, help to establish doctoral program in energy and power engineering, and serve the high-end equipment intelligent manufacturing industry cluster in Lin-gang. Additionally, it lays a solid foundation for subsequent applications for CSC programs. In the future, SDJU will select and send personnel through internal screening and defense procedures, actively implementing this Project.
