The 6th SGUA Forum Held at SDJU

  On October 8, the 6th Sino-German University Alliance (SGUA) Forum was held at SDJU, bringing together leaders of Sino-German cooperatively-run educational institution (project) (SGCEI) spanning over 16 universities, including Changshu Institute of Technology, Chongqing College of Mobile Communication, Foshan University, Hebei Agricultural University (HAU), Jiangsu University of Technology, Qingdao University of Science and Technology (QUST), Shandong Agricultural University, Shanxi University of Finance and Economics (SUFE), Shanghai DianJi University, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST), Wuhan Business University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Yantai University, Yantai Institute of Technology, Zhejiang University of Science and Technology (ZUST), and Zhengzhou University. Experts from Shanghai University, Peking University, UNIcert and SinoJobs also attended. The forum centered on the theme of internal governance system of Sino-foreign cooperatively-run educational institution, which, as an important part of SDJU’s 70th anniversary, aligned perfectly with SDJU’s mission of internationalization through industry-education integration, and objective of building into a nationally influential university of advanced applied technology.

The forum commenced with speeches from Li Xiaojun, Deputy Secretary of CPC SDJU Committee and Vice President, and Luan Xuelian, Deputy Director of International Affairs Division of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission. On behalf of SDJU, Li extended a warm welcome to all participants, and emphasized that the forum was of great significance, particularly in the context of celebrating SDJU’s70th anniversary. She highlighted SDJU’s strategy of quality education, opening-up and pooling talents, and the development path of internationalization and industry-education integration. She also stressed the significance of mutual learning and collaboration among SGUA members, and expected that the insights shared during the forum would ignite new ideas for the development of Sino-German cooperatively-run universities!

Deputy Director Luan provided an overview of Shanghai’s educational opening up, and underscored the importance of adapting to the practical needs of teachers and students while introducing high-quality education from abroad. She emphasized that universities need to address shortcomings and promote reforms, thereby enhancing the quality of talent cultivation through Sino-foreign cooperative education.

The forum invited Lv Kangjuan, Party Secretary of SILC Business School, Shanghai University, to give a keynote speech. Lv shared the internal governance systems and achievements during SILC’s 30 years of Sino-foreign cooperation, highlighting six key governance systems, including decision-making, finance, internal control, education quality, personnel, and information technology.

Representative from SGUA members, including Han Haiqing, Party Secretary of QUST CDTD (Chinesisch-Deutsche Technische Fakultat), Chen Qi, Dean of USST Sino-German College, Xue Wen, Dean of ZUST CDAI, Shi Zhen, Dean of Sino-German School of SUFE, analyzed their respective developments, dilemmas, and solutions in internal governance of Sino-foreign cooperation. They shared their experiences in exploring and implementing internal governance from both China and German perspectives, promoting exchange and communication for high-quality development of Sino-foreign cooperative education. Additionally, the forum invited Liu Yueting, executive director of UNIcert, to introduce in detail the policy and system of the international entrance language examination for German universities under the UNIcert system. And An Yan, general manager of SinoJobs, a career platform headquartered in Europe mainly catering to Chinese, introduced career opportunities for students with Sino-foreign cooperative education.

Along with the council meeting, teaching seminar was also held separately. Representatives from different universities, including professor Ma Jian from Peking University, fully exchanged their respective teaching methods and experiences, and deeply explored more efficient teaching models.

 SGUA is a national social organization formed voluntarily by MOE-approved non-independent legal person SGCEIs, engaging in exchanges and cooperation of Sino-German cooperative education. Initiated and established by universities of SGCEI in 2018, SGUA aims to promote the healthy development of SGCEIs in higher education institutions, unite SGCEI strengths, and better facilities of SGCEI in the internationalization of China’s higher education.
