The launching ceremony of SDJU Wharton Global Youth Leadership Program (WGYLP) was held on April 21st at Conference Room 230 of SDJU Administration Building. Attendees included Gong Siyi, Vice Secretary of CPC SDJU Committee and President, Yang Junjie, SDJU Vice President, Dr. Zhu Xu, CEO of Wharton Shanghai Center, as well as representatives from functional departments and heads of secondary schools. The top 30 students of the program were present as well.
Firstly, Peng Ruirui, Deputy Director from Office of International Cooperation and Exchange comprehensively introduced the WGYLP selection process. She reviewed the three stages of promotion, preliminary and final selection, and expressed gratitude to SDJU departments and secondary schools for their strong support.
Subsequently, Yang Junjie, SDJU Vice President, announced the top ten SDJU WGYLP candidates and then, they were presented certificates of honor by President Gong Siyi.
Student representative Zhu Weiyao expressed in her speech that WGYLP participation experience has exposed her to world-class business education and leadership development. Cutting-edge leadership courses would undoubtedly improve her knowledge and skill in this regard. She also extended gratitude to SDJU, and stated that she would cherish this valuable opportunity provided by Wharton.
Dr. Zhu Xu, CEO of Wharton Shanghai Center, pointed out that WGYLP arose to closely connect young people to business MBA discipline and MBA courses, thereby better cultivating the leadership of global youth. WGYLP SDJU program would prove an excellent opportunity for SDJU students to gain preliminary understanding into leadership before entering the workforce and the all-English business simulation would provide them with a high-quality language learning environment. The experience could not only polish students’ leadership and business analysis and innovation abilities, but also help them establish a solid language foundation. He hoped students to finish the program in a joyful and relaxed atmosphere, apply their learning in practice, become adaptable and flexible in interpersonal communication, and grow through the program.
Gong Siyi congratulated the top 30 candidates and expressed gratitude to EHouse Wharton for its support. She believed that the program would turn out to be beneficial for critical thinking, academic competence, innovative ability, and collaboration skill of participating students. She offered three suggestions and the first was to read more books, especially good books in preparation for personal development and international exchanges; the second was to adopt a proactive attitude towards life and learning and cherish this learning opportunity; the third was to use this chance to plan and contemplate life plans, because only those with a broad and far-reaching vision would understand what kind of person they want to become and what contributions they can make to society.
President Gong hoped young students to keep in mind General Secretary Xi Jinping’s earnest anticipations of “cultivating noble character, establishing lofty ideals, developing outstanding abilities, and undertaking great responsibilities” and return full of gains after completing all WGYLP courses.
Offered by Wharton Shanghai Center, WGYLP is a leadership program for college students. It utilizes a global database of top business cases for exploration and research, aiming to realize an organic integration of leadership with management. Through cutting-edge courses, the program will enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in leadership from multiple aspects, strengthen their leadership qualities and multilateral communication skills, thus producing positive impact on participants’ comprehensive abilities, international competitiveness, future career and individual development.
