To cultivate aspiring, responsible, tough and striving SDJU students in the new era, and to learn more about them, listen to their voices and better meet their needs, on the afternoon of March 29, SDJU leaders had a meeting with winners of the 1st SDJU President’s Scholarship on the theme of “striving to be a pioneer of the times with a great sense of national responsibility”. Lu Xionggang, Secretary of CPC SDJU Committee, Gong Siyi, SDJU President, and Li Xiaojun, Deputy Secretary of CPC SDJU Committee and Vice President attended the meeting together with heads of related secondary schools and functional departments. The meeting was presided over by Shang Hailong, Director of Office of Student Affairs.
Secretary Lu fully affirmed the outstanding performance of the winning students. He hoped that they would set lofty ideals and aspirations, have a sense of selflessness, and serve our country with science and technology in the new journey of comprehensively building a modern socialist China. In addition, young students should always keep a grateful and dedicated heart, waste no time and the best years of lives on the path of promoting the core values of socialism. He also encouraged students to play a leading and exemplary role in accelerating SDJU’s construction toward a national demonstration university of applied technology.
President Gong Siyi emphasized the profound significance of the President’s Scholarship, encouraged the winning students to uphold the SDJU spirit of “Striving for self-strengthening and pursuing excellence” to be a pioneer, explorer, and contributor and bravely lead the way in the new era. She wished them to study hard persistently, strive tirelessly, and fear no difficulties, keep fighting, adjust themselves, and dare to face challenges. At the same time, students should be grateful and respectful, care about SDJU, and pass on the SDJU spirit.
At the meeting, all attendees watched a video and reviewed the whole process of 1st President’s Scholarship from preliminary evaluation to final assessment. Five representatives presented and shared experiences and insights in personal understanding, academic learning, innovative practice, service and dedication and individual strengths, which fully reflected SDJU students’ spirit of striving for self-strengthening and pursuing excellence in the new era as well as their sense of responsibility of working hard and moving forward courageously and determinedly.
Pang Liang, a graduate student from School of Electrical Engineering, voluntarily gave up a high-paying job in a listed company and chose to work for a military-industrial unit to engage in aerospace motor R&D; Wu Mengyuan from School of Mechanical Engineering followed the example of famous alumnus, tapped her oratory skills, and told her story of growing up as an SDJU “rising star”; Pan Feifei, a bachelor’s degree holder from School of Business, has signed employment agreements with a well-known advertising company. She was back to campus with a dual identity of quasi alumnus and incoming HR, bringing job opportunities; Huang Ziyao from School of Materials Science and Engineering has put the scientific and technological achievements into practice, helping rural revitalization and willing to devote youth to where the motherland needs it most; Yuan Hang, from KKIP (Kaiserslautern Kolleg für Intelligente Produktion), is determined to become an outstanding field engineer with an international vision and devote himself to the construction of the five new cities.
Centering on the theme of “striving to be a pioneer of the times with a great sense of national responsibility”, and revolving around topics like high-quality development, construction of SDJU into a demonstration university of industry-education integration (IEI), and celebration of SDJU’s 70th anniversary, the participants spoke from their hearts, and actively offered personal suggestions. SDJU leaders presented books and special commemorative badges to scholarship winners, encouraging them to strive for self-improvement and pursue excellence, and realize dreams and write magnificent chapters on the road of great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
