SDJU First Career Planning Carnival

From November 3rd to 7th 2021, to help SDJU students raise awareness of career planning and set long-term development goals, the career planning carnival with the theme of “passionate youth, fortunate sailing, brave steering in dream trip”,  was held on Lin-gang campus. The event was sponsored by the Employment and Entrepreneurship Incubation Base of Shanghai College Graduates, organized by SDJU Students Affairs Office and supported technically by Jiangsu Yandong Education and Technology Co., Ltd. The carnival was designed for freshmen graduates and undergraduates, but other students, including international students, and SDJU teachers were also attracted.



In the party-like carnival, students participated in different activities and had fun experiences. More importantly, they could get idea about their potential careers, consequently helping to raise their awareness of career planning and inject positive energy to their daily study. There were six themed areas—Career Awareness, Inner Exploration, Outer Exploration, Job Willingness, Action Plan, and Future Planning—offering in total ten experimental activities. By learning while having fun, students especially freshmen could better understand how career planning would benefit them in different respects of future life, have a clear view of their interests, capabilities, characters and personal values and grasp job information outside the campus. These activities could also stimulate students to plan and make appropriate goals, and develop awareness of career planning.

At the pleasant scene, Li Zhanhu, student from School of Electrical Engineering minoring in law, said the carnival helped him to know his true self, brought the job market closer to him, which encouraged him to study hard. With actionable plans for the next four years, he believed that he could handle his major and the minor, and his future would be as “happy” as what was said on the card his drew.

SDJU CPC Committee and Administration paidhighattention to the event. From its organization to its unfolding, Li Xiaojun, Deputy Secretary of CPC SDJU Committee and Vice President, asked about its progress, gave clear instruction on how it should be organized and arranged, which ensured its successful rollout. And, she pointed out the activity must cover Minhang campus where students were also in need of nutritious knowledge to improve their capability to plan and build their own careers.

Using this activity as the opening of the “Career Education Month”, Career Guidance Office would arrange a series of follow-up activities, such as university students career planning competitions, “stepping into manufacturing” work exploration, “workplace elite sharing forum”, etc. to foster correct idea, become a useful person and raise career planning awareness. And in the future, SDJU students would better equipped in job hunting and career development. (Wang Yuehong)
