From May 9th to 10th, the 17th “Challenge Cup”, also known as the National Undergraduate Competition on Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works, came to the final round in Shanghai University of Electric Power. Against a list of strong competitors, the SDJU project, Design and Realization of Detecting and Screening System of Defected Coffee Bean Based on Caffe Deep Learning Framework, has scored the special prize for its outstanding technicality and performance. The work was headed by Hou Yichen, selected and recommended by the School of Mechanical Engineering of SDJU and guided by Professor Yu Zhonghai.
Since the very start of “Challenge Cup”, Youth League Committee of SDJU has encouraged students to participate through well-organized campus contests, and different schools have mobilized and offered support to teams for this municipal-level competition. Through rounds of tryouts under guidance and assessment by school and outside experts, 12 projects out of 80 were recommended. As the curtain of this competition fell, SDJU students have proved their creativity, energy and wisdom, making considerable achievements: one special prize and four third prizes. (Qian Bin)
