As it is approaching the first China International Import Expo (CIIE), the mobilization meeting for SDJU volunteers was held in the University’s Lingang Library today, where hundreds of student volunteers made their solemn promise, ‘Do our best not for reward but to serve others as well as society. Fulfill the spirit of volunteerism and spread pioneering ideas. Be devoted to CIIE services. Serve the guests from all over the world with sincerity and enthusiasm, and add glory to CIIE with confidence and wisdom.’

The Expo will take place in National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai) from November 5 to 10, 2018. Enterprises from over 100 countries and regions are expected to participate in the event. Supporting activities such as supply-demand matchmaking meetings, seminars and product releases will be held during the Expo. It's estimated that 150,000 domestic and foreign professional purchasers will join in the Expo.

The Shanghai Municipal Government will enroll and train in rows 5000 volunteers, dividing into 100 groups, and set up 100 service stations, for the CIIE services, in which student volunteers from universities and colleges in Shanghai will play an essential role.

Statistics indicate that more than 2000 SDJU students carried out voluntary programs of all kinds of social welfare practices all over the country, and served up to 15000 people during the summer months. Excellent voluntary groups to aid education, for the prevalence of science and of the Red Cross thus sprang up.

After the announcement of enrollment, over 1000 SDJU students submitted their applications. Through a sequence of tests including written examination, mental quiz, English Q&A, structured interviews and practices, etc., 70 formal volunteers as well as 70 reserves were selected.

'The voluntary work for the CIIE is an important political issue. Hence we feel we ought to send our best students to the positions of volunteers,’ says Sun Peilei, SDJU General Secretary.

To ensure the quality of the voluntary work and the success of the Expo, the 140 SDJU selected student volunteers will enter a four-day training program with courses taught by experts from more than ten universities soon after the mobilization meeting.
