Python is a high-level and interpreted programming language that lets the user work quickly and integrate systems more efficiently. To be specific, Python provides features to simplify data analysis and visualization, and thereby facilitate Big Data solutions. The programmers have option to use Python for developing both desktop graphical user interface applications and web applications. Statistics indicates the growing popularity of Python as a programming language for the general purpose of use.

As chaperoned by Huai Ting Wang, assistant dean of the SDJU School of Electronic and Information Engineering, and Pin Lyu, SDJU associate professor of software engineering, 14 SDJU students, most of whom are postgraduates from the SDJU School of Electrical Engineering,  arrived at the Dublin Airport on July 22nd, 2018 after a 19-hour flight. The three-week Python course was waiting for us.

Volunteers of Institute of Technology Tallaght (ITT) entertained us with warmth and led us to the dormitory, which was very cozy and comfortable. Afterwards, the volunteers showed us around ITT, so that we had a general knowledge about the customs and habits here and got what we need in supermarket. Rambling through the small town, with seagulls, swans, urban light rail and double-decker bus walking by, we were enchanted by the amazing Irish scenes.

At 9.00 am on July 23rd, 2018, after having breakfast with Susan and Onray, ITT teachers, a welcome party was held to celebrate our visit. Susan and Onray welcomed us and introduced the campus, traffic, food, safety matters and the plan for the next three weeks. On behalf of SDJU, Huai Ting Wang, group delegate, sent the gifts to Susan and Onray for their warm invitation and reception.

At 10.45 am, Damien Doheny, the Python course’s instructor, began to teach us this popular programming language. He guided us to programme step by step. We learnt basic Python constructs and functions with his excellent teaching skills and friendly attitude. During the learning process, Doheny would answer everyone’s questions patiently. Everybody in the group were also eager to learn and help each other. In the end, we were all interested in Python and wanted to learn more about it.

Getting to know about Python was a wonderful experience, so will be the entire process of acquiring it. We are looking forward to what’s waiting for us in the next three weeks.
