SDJU Celebrated 70th Anniversary with a Successful Conference on High-quality IEI

Relentlessly striving for progress for seven decades, and daringly pursuing excellence in the new era. On October 6, the High-Quality Industry-Education Integration (IEI) Conference was held at gymnasium of Lin-gang campus.



Distinguished guests in attendance included Chen Jinshan, member of the Standing Committee of CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Lin-gang Special Area (LG) and Director of Lin-gang Special Area Administration (LGSAA); Xie Dong, Vice Mayor of Shanghai; Wang Ping, Deputy Secretary General of Shanghai Municipal Government; Shen Wei, Secretary of CPC Shanghai Education and Health Work Committee (SEHWC); Zhou Yaming, SEHWC Deputy Secretary and Director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission (SMEC); Liu Yungeng, SDJU alumnus of 6349 Industrial and Electrical Engineering (IEE) Class, Chairman of the 13th Shanghai People’s Congress Standing Committee (SPCSC), and Secretary of SPCSC Party Committee; Song Yiqiao, SDJU alumnus of 439 IEE Class, member of the 7th Standing Committee of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, and Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference; Wu Guanghui, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chief designer of C919; Liu Changsheng, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and President of Shanghai University (SHU); Li Ruxin, CAS Academician and Secretary of CPC ShanghaiTech University Committee. Additionally, 81 domestic and overseas universities, including East China University of Science and Technology, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST), Shenyang University of Technology (SUT), Fujian University of Technology, and Hochschule Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences in Germany, and 116 SDJU IEI strategic partners, including Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, China United Gas Turbine Technology Co. LTD. (UGTC), Shanghai Electric Group, Dongfeng Motor Corporation, and Lingang Group, attended the conference. Attendees also included former leaders who provided guidance and support for SDJU, leaders from offices and bureaus under CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee, leaders from LGSAA, leaders of Minhang District, representatives of faculty and students, as well as alumni from home and abroad. The conference was presided over by Lu Xionggang, Secretary of CPC SDJU Committee.



The conference commenced with the national anthem, its stirring notes filling the gym with a sense of grandeur and patriotic spirit.



In her address, Vice Mayor Xie highlighted SDJU’s significant contributions to national and local economic development by persistently following the path of industry-education integration. She pointed out that higher education of Shanghai is at the forefront of improving the quality of talent cultivation and supporting regional economic and social growth, and efforts are being made in pushing forward categorized development of universities/colleges while preserving their distinctive characteristics. She expressed her hope that SDJU will seize this opportunity by optimizing its academic programs and discipline directions, fostering continuous technological innovation and deepening its commitment to IEI while maintaining its unique features. She encouraged SDJU to develop and grow in line with market demands, and play a pivotal role in the establishment of a modern industrial system and Shanghai's aspirations to become an international economic, financial, trading and shipping and innovative center.



Shortly before SDJU’s 70th anniversary, a delegation led by Vice-Minister Weng Tiejian from the Ministry of Education visited our university. Vice-minister Weng commended SDJU for its adherence to IEI path and expressed the hope that SDJU will continue thrive in Lin-gang, serving local industries, and nurturing more skilled high-level technical graduates to contribute further to local economic and industrial development.



SHU President Liu emphasized that both SDJU and SHU, as local universities in Shanghai, have a shared commitment to serving the economic and social development of the city. He expressed his hope that both universities would adhere to the correct direction in talent cultivation, the values guiding scientific research, and the service- oriented approach to innovative development. President Liu encouraged both universities to take a proactive role in leading high-level reform and opening up, enhancing their self-reliance and self-improvement in advanced science and technology, contributing to the economic and social development of Shanghai and the city's modernization. Additionally, he emphasized that both universities should focus on addressing the pressing needs of national and industrial development by collaborating with more universities and enterprises to create a vibrant community dedicated to IEI.



Leng Weiqing, Secretary of CPC Committee of Shanghai Electric Group Co., LTD. (Shanghai Electric) and Chairman of Shanghai Electric, emphasized in her address the strong historical connection between Shanghai Electric and SDJU. Their past IEI efforts have fostered deep collaboration and yielded fruitful results. She expressed the commitment to the partnership by aligning with national and Shanghai's development strategies, exploring new IEI models, expanding partnership, and creating a new collaborative ecosystem between universities and enterprises for development and mutual benefit.



Shu Guogang, Chief Designer of Heavy-duty Gas Turbine Project, General Manager Assistant of State Power Investment Corporation Limited (SPIC), UGTC Chairman and Secretary of CPC UGTC Committee, highlighted the fruitful collaboration between UGTC and SDJU since the signing of Framework Agreement on Strategic Cooperation. Together, both sides have cooperated in various fields, including the UIC project, the National Manufacturing Innovation Center, the Power City Research Institute, Major National Scientific and Technological Project and AE Workstation, resulting in significant achievements. He stressed the joint committed to addressing national challenges, bearing national responsibilities, and contributing to the advancement of IEI in the innovative landscape of Shanghai, particularly in Lin-gang.



In her keynote speech titled "Unyielding Spirit for Excellence, Forging Ahead in Valuing Tradition for a Glorious Chapter and Building SDJU as a National Pilot of Applied Technology University", SDJU President Gong Siyi, emphasized our university’s close ties with industry and its growth has been intertwined with industry. Over the past 70 years, SDJU has been upholding the overall leadership of the Party, and its mission has always been cultivating talent for the Party and the country. She highlighted SDJU’s commitment to serving national strategies, aligning with local needs, and actively pursuing development. Seizing opportunities, adhering to opening and cooperative policy, and deepening IEI are SDJU’s path to become stronger. And carrying out university spirit as well as upholding continuous self-improvement and pursuit of excellence are the sources of SDJU prosperity. Looking forward, President Gong expressed SDJU’s dedication to national interests, positioning itself as an application-oriented university, implementing character development through education, focusing on cultivating excellent field engineers. SDJU will also prioritize gathering and nurturing high-level faculty, serve national and local strategic needs, strive for top-notch innovative achievement, uphold SDJU spirit and foster an open and innovative campus culture.    



During the anniversary celebration, both domestic and international universities and enterprises sent video messages and congratulatory letters to convey their warm congratulations on SDJU’s 70th anniversary. Among them, Lu Tiecheng, a representative alumnus of SDJU’s first class in 1953, who later served as Vice Director of Sichuan People’s Congress Standing Committee, and Secretary of Party Committee and President of Sichuan University, sent a video message to express his best wishes to his alma mater.



Over the past 70 years, generations of SDJU students and faculty have showcased the spirit of “self-improvement and pursuit of excellence”, and held dear to the university motto of “seeking virtue and perfection, studying extensively and practicing earnestly”. They have diligently pursued their studies, poured passion into their endeavors, and devoted their youth and talent to the motherland, contributing significantly to the rapid development of our university. During the celebration, 14 representatives paid tribute to SDJU forerunners through recitations. Student representatives also presented flowers to SDJU former leaders, retired faculty, and alumni in attendance.



At the event, Zhou Yaming and Gong Siyi jointly unveiled the SDJU School of Excellent Engineers (SEE). SEE’s primary focus is to serve our country’s strategic needs, particularly in high-tech industries and technological innovation within LG. It will provide master’s degree programs in fields such as smart manufacturing, artificial intelligence, semiconductor manufacturing, and intelligent new energy vehicles. SEE will establish a board of directors with representatives from SDJU and partner enterprises and appoint a dean to lead the school. Its visions include innovating IEI talent cultivation model, advancing enrollment reform involving both SDJU and enterprises, deepening curriculum and study reforms, strengthening IEI base and platform construction, and enhancing tutorial team. The school will also work on improving the evaluation mechanism for professional master's degree education, with the ultimate goal of creating a new era of high-level IEI talent cultivation and building an outstanding system for professional master's degree education.



During the conference, several high-level IEI platforms were unveiled, including Shanghai Remanufacturing Engineering Research Center for Metal Parts, established jointly by SDJU and SHU, Research Institute for Aircraft Intelligent Material and Structure in collaboration with USST, Joint Innovation Center for Aviation Electrodynamics, partnered with SAU, Joint Lab for Cockpit Human Factors Engineering, established with AVIC INTL East China Optical Electronics (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. (ECOE), and New Energy Big Data Research Center in partnership with Shanghai Electric Vehicle Public Data Collecting, Monitoring and Research Center (EVDATA). SHU President Liu Changsheng, USST President Ding Xiaodong, SAU Vice President Sun Yanpeng, ECOE GM Xu Zhaohui and EVDATA Director Qiao Li joined President Gong in the unveiling ceremony.



On the occasion of SDJU’s 70th anniversary, Zhengzhou Jeian High-Tech Co., Ltd. (Jeian) contributed 30 million yuan to jointly establish an aviation R&D center while China Anhui Electric Group Shares Co., Ltd. (CAHE) donated 20 million yuan to jointly promote the development of university science park (USP). On behalf of SDJU, President Gong received the donations from Jiean GM Gao Zhisheng and CAHE Executive He Zhonggang. In preparation for the 70th anniversary celebration, generous donations from teachers, students, alumni, and friends from various sectors funded several significant projects. including the renovation and expansion of SDJU History Museum, improvements to the student automotive training platform, establishment of Zhi Ming Lecture Hall and Alumni Station, launch of SAS (School of Arts and Sciences) Tutorial Studio, renovation of the Bell Tower, facility improvement of Minhang campus, and upgrades of Lin-gang Stadium. These donations have played a crucial role in the rapid development of SDJU.



To further support SDJU’s development and on the basis of the existing strategic cooperation between LGSAA and SDJU, a special agreement and support policies were formulated to facilitate SDJU’s transformation into a National Pilot of Applied Technology University (NPATU). Tang Hao, a member the LG Party Working Committee, and LGSAA full-time Vice Director, provided detailed overview of this special agreement. It outlines that LGSAA will provide special support fund to aid SDJU in becoming a NPATU with a focus on LG industrial development. The supports include construction of Industry-University-Research (IUR) practical education platforms, including industrial support platforms in smart manufacturing, integrated circuits, and aerospace, industrial public service platforms such as SDJU Analysis and Testing Center, and high-level industrial talent platforms such as Shanghai Craftsman College (Lin-gang School). Special support policies encompass various aspects, including mechanism innovation, IEI pilot carrier, top-tier research platform and new R&D institution, technical innovation in key areas like applied software, integrated circuits, civil aviation, new electric motor, and energy equipment. These policies also address the recruitment and development of high-level teachers aligned with LG industries, double qualified faculty and training system, excellent field engineer program, and high-quality international program, among other initiatives.



In the presence of leaders including Chen Jinshan, Xie Dong, Wu Guanghui, Wang Ping, Shen Wei, Zhou Yaming, Wang Yayuan, and Yuan Guohua, Vice Director Tang and President Gong signed the cooperation agreement on behalf of LGSAA and SDJU respectively. This agreement marks a new opportunity for SDJU’s development, strengthening its ability to serve LG and contribute to regional development continually.



Rivers and seas have nurtured life and witnessed SDJU growth. Fragrant wisteria and yellow osmanthus added beauty to SDJU’s 70th anniversary. With the SDJU school song playing in the background, the High-Quality IEI Conference came to a successful close.

In the lead-up to SDJU’s 70th anniversary, Lin-gang Digital Tower by Dishui Lake illuminated with the congratulatory words to mark the occasion. SDJU History Museum had renovations and upgrades. On the anniversary day, a range of activities took place including a forum on high-quality development of applied universities, the 4th Sino-German forum on the cultivation of applied talents for intelligent manufacturing industry, art performances, and various celebratory activities organized by different schools. In the evening, over a thousand drones took to the sky, performing an impressive air show that featured SDJU patterns and images, adding to the anniversary celebrations.
