President Hu Sheng urges SDJU grads to 'make a promise and keep it. Attain your happiness in the struggle for future.'

SDJU President Hu Sheng spoke to SDJU’s Class of 2018 on a beautiful sunny afternoon in the University’s Lingang Stadium, urging the graduates to make a promise for future confidently and commit themselves to fulfilling it.



Hu, who has served as the President of SDJU since 2015, opened the speech by describing his breakfast chat with a young SDJU alumnus in the University’s cafeteria. ‘The student often recalled the lots of help his teacher in the School of Mechanical Engineering had offered,’ he said, ’that’s why he came back frequently for a meal. This example showed one’s illustrious virtue of being grateful for the support from the SDJU community.’



Speaking to the domestic and international undergraduates receiving their degrees today, Hu said, ’Confidence leads to self-reliance, with the support of which, you will work hard to overcome all the obstacles to reach the destiny of excellence.’



After citing many achievements made by members of this student class, Hu said, ’Promise paves the way towards maturity. Once you make a promise, commit yourself to keeping it. This attitude to life is crucial to win a bright future.’



SDJU Deputy Secretary Yang Ruofan recited the Honours List of Shanghai Outstanding Undergraduates of the class of 2018 at the Commencement. The very special name on the list is Ji Xiang Jia, who graduated from the School of Electrical Engineering today. Jia was nominated in November 2017 for the 7th Shanghai Mayor’s Youth Award in Science, Technology and Innovation for his innovative solution to the pollution problem caused by express packaging.



Together with over 240 domestic newly alumni, three international graduates Wong Soo Feng Wen Philippe, Mti Neema Iddi and Hassane Djibo Mahamadou were awarded the Extensive Study Honour Graduate Ribbon, for their superb academic performances during their four years in SDJU.



Tao Shen, a graduate from the School of Electrical Engineering, and Yu Feng Yang, from the School of Mechanical Engineering, received the Earnest Practice Honour Graduate Ribbon for their voluntary practice to serve in Tibet right after graduation. SDJU General Secretary Sun Peilei was invited to wear the ribbons for the two aspiring youngsters.



As Hu concluded in his remarks to the SDJU graduates of 2018, ‘Fall in love with your job. Pursuit excellence persistently. Find innovative solutions. And you will attain your happiness in the struggle for future.’
